John Douglas D’Angelo didn’t design the jig behind a desk. He learned it through guiding, seminars, and thousands of hours reading fish in real water.
Affectionately known as “The FishHawk” of Lake Almanor, D’Angelo became a legendary guide and innovator. His expertise led to a handcrafted jig inspired by pond smelt and the natural prey of local fish.
He could read water conditions, adapt technique, and share what he knew. His jigs became the preferred choice of anglers who valued effective design over empty promises.
His work went beyond catching fish. D’Angelo promoted conservation and mentored young anglers, ensuring the sport—and the waters supporting it—would thrive for the next generation.
